We enjoyed a late summer day last weekend on the Duo 480. The wind was very light , but conditions were very enjoyable, and after anchoring in a quiet bay for lunch we had a nice sail home, topping out at just under 7 knots. Not fast , but I could have sat there all day at that speed, with everything nicely balanced , and with no drama

  1. Hi Bryan,

I've got plans for a DUO480C. I have not yet made the jump to building the boat. I was wondering what you would change if you were to build it again? On another tact, how well does it sail into the wind? Where I live we have prevailing SW winds in summer and a 1-2kn W current (and choppy waters). This makes the ability to go up wind and tack easily quite important - its not at all fun to get stuck down stream of your launch point.

    TIA,

    Ed Tomlinson

    1. Hey Ed, have you started your DUO, yet? Would love to hear about the process as you get into it. Not sure which of the 2 to build, but leaning toward this one. thanks, Jim B

    2. Hi Ed I only just saw this, sorry. i dont go back on my blog as often as i could. I made some comments to questions similar to yours Jan 2017, so have alook there. About upwind specifically, the boat goes up wind pretty well considering, especially when there is a bit of wind. But not as well as a skiff with a big dagger board, of course. Think: the older Hobie 14/16 compared to cats with boards. Adequate, though

  2. I'd love to hear from you both. Am trying to decide whether to build this one or the ECO, his next size up. I live in very shallow protected waters, the Texas Gulf Inter Coastal Waterway. Thanks for any input you'd like to share. Also, I'd love to see any blogs you made/make during the process. Thanks again, y'all!

  3. I probably won't start the build till I retire in two or three years. Meanwhile I have been having lots of fun with a lakesailor ( http://www.macnaughtongroup.com/Lake_Sailor.htm ). Lots more pictures in a public facebook album.
